Honeywell Primus II Modernization Capability Upgrades:
- SBAS (Satellite Based Augmentation System) A broader term encompassing various systems like WAAS that augment GPS signals with correction data. Provides improved accuracy and integrity for navigation across a wide area.\
- WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System) A satellite-based system that improves the accuracy of GPS signals by sending correction data to aircraft. Enables highly precise navigation, especially during approaches. Developed primarily by the FAA for civil aviation use.
- LPV (Localizer Performance with Vertical Guidance) is a precise type of approach instrument approach procedure that uses WAAS-enhanced GPS signals to provide both horizontal and vertical guidance during landing. Considered similar to an Instrument Landing System (ILS) approach with high accuracy to enable precise landings in low visibility.
- ADS-B OUT (Automatic Dependent Surveillance–Broadcast) Allows an aircraft to automatically transmit its position, altitude, and other flight data to nearby aircraft and air traffic control. Considered a key safety feature for collision avoidance.
